History

The Chainstore is the largest of the surviving nineteenth century structures at Trinity Buoy Wharf and in 1983 was identified by the Secretary of State for the Environment as being of special architectural and historic interest.

The Chainstore: riverside viewSir James Douglass, designer of many famous lighthouses designed the chain and buoy store and experimental lighthouse, in 1863. Soon after, Michael Faraday a British pioneer in electricity and magnetism experiments carried out a number of important optical experiments within this building.

The Chainstore was sold in 1988 and has since been converted into a magnificent riverside London venue.
